MIS 3580: Secrets of Web 2.0 Marketing

Check out the new course that the MIS department is offering for the fall 2008 semester; This course is open to both majors and minors and will count as your elective course for either program. This course meets from 1:10-2:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday’s at Temple University’s main campus. CRN:(063306)

This course provides a conceptual and applied understanding of the principles and practices of Web 2.0 marketing. Topics include sticky website content, web analytics, micro-content, search engine optimization, search engine advertising, and leveraging social media. The course emphasizes the application of website marketing principles. Students will build traffic for actual websites through the use of website promotion and analysis tools.

Pre-Req: Basic computer literacy (see www.fox.temple.edu/foxclt), MIS 2101 (0070), MKTG 2101 (0081) or 2901 (0091).

The course reinforces exposure to Web 2.0 marketing principles with individual and team experiential learning through applied project activities. We will cover relevant research findings regarding virtual communities, information goods, social psychology, marketing, and communications. The hands-on use of Web 2.0 applications will be firmly grounded in core principles of both marketing and information systems. Students who successfully complete this course will gain skills in building and tracking website traffic that are of high value to potential employers.
